Curse of the Dark Knight

Is the new Batman movie cursed? It's making tons of money at the box office and has been number one for 3 weeks in a row and its on its way to beating the all time best selling movie Titanic. (probably won't but it will be close) However almost each of its cast members have had some crazy and bizarre things happen to them in the past year.

1. Let's start off with Heath Ledger's death back in January. Everyone had been anticipating his portrayal of the sociopathic joker for quite some time even after filming wrapped back in 2007. Then suddenly Heath tragically dies from an accidental overdose.

2. I would say even before Heath's death, there was an issue with the fact that Katie Holmes didn't reprise her role as Rachel Dawes for which she had no reason other than to say it conflicted with her filming of Mad Money (a movie which tanked and gave her only $200,000 compared to Batman's offer of 2,000,000). However they kept the character and just replaced her with another actress Maggie Gyllenhall.

3. Then on opening night, a couple makes their way to a late night showing where a deer runs right out in front of them missing them by a second, the projector is tilted during the movie so all text during previews and credits is crooked, the sound goes out for 10 seconds and finally on their way home after the movie they drive by an object on the side of the road that almost looked like a body bag. Just a bizarre night and it all happened in Wayne (no relation to Bruce Wayne).

4. Then just 4 days after opening day, the lead actor Christian Bale is arrested for assaulting his sister and mother.

5. It was just reported this week that Morgan Freeman was in a serious car accident over the weekend.

I'm not sure how many things need to happen before the movie can be labeled a curse, but I think 5 ought to be a good start.

Put on your Sunday clothes there's lots of world out there...

I really enjoyed the opening scene of WALL-E which began with a song from the musical “Hello Dolly.” I think it was a perfectly chosen song to help describe the mentality of a lonely robot living in a desolate world all by himself. He somehow remains optimistic and continues to look at the world as a place full of wonder, exciting treasures and possibilities.

I definitely enjoyed this movie from beginning to end and thought it was the best Pixar film since Finding Nemo. (maybe that's because they were written and directed by the same guy, Andrew Stanton) The scenes were beautifully done and you really fall in love with the characters early on even though there is no dialog in the movie for almost 30 minutes. WALL-E is a classic Disney film that will please both children and adults for many generations. I almost want to live in that desolate world so I can have a Wall-E of my own. (ok not really. a stuffed Wall-E will probably do just fine.) - 4 Ducks out of 4

The Happening is just not happening...

Ok so here we go again. Another M. Night Shyamalan movie has hit the theaters. And like every M. Night movie, there is this hope and anticipation that it will be another Sixth Sense. Because let’s be honest. The Sixth Sense was his first and last great film. The others that have followed throughout the years have been at the very least a good effort, but none of them have come close to his first film which had one of the greatest plot twists in film history.

The Happening on the other hand has to be the worst movie I have ever seen in a really really long time. There is no plot twist because the plot never delivers a decent scene. There are no big surprises other than the horrible acting mainly due to the atrocious dialogue given to the actors. The film was given an R rating for its graphic violent scenes of death and suicide, but the scenes were so ridiculous that I ended up laughing at how stupid they actually were. It was like watching a B rated horror movie.
I would also have to say that the actors were miscast as well. Who would believe Zooey Deschanel to be a love interest to the school teacher played by Mark Wahlberg? She was perfect as the doe eyed love interest of Will Ferrell in Elf, but for some reason I just couldn’t take her seriously as the lead actress in this film. By the end of the film you are wishing everyone would just die already because you don't care about the characters and watching reality TV would be more entertaining than watching this. - 0 Ducks out of 4

Yes I'm a Movie Snob

I've always loved movies and growing up I used to run out and see everything and anything. (yes that includes Pauly Shore movies which I'm ashamed to say but true) Hey, Buuddy.

Anyways I've always loved the whole experience of escaping reality in a world full of surround sound, awesome effects and exciting & funny stories. However I don't know what happened to me as the years went by, but somehow I've become a snob, a movie snob to be exact. My friends have definitely noticed and always bring it up. I can't help it. I've seen so many movies over the past few decades and come to realize that there is just alot of crap out there. So much money is wasted on stupid story lines, bad acting and horrible special effects (that includes Mr. George Lucas). Also as an adult, I'm making my own money and paying for more things than I used to. Movies are more of a luxury now a days compared to when I was kid. I can't ask for money from mommy and daddy anymore. I guess I've become a little more relunctant to run out and see every movie released including major blockbusters. Movies today may be bigger and flashier, but that doesn't necessarily always mean they are better. So yes I'm picky when it comes to movies and I tend to critique most of them just because I've seen so many and I can notice mistakes or flaws easier than most.

It's been a while since I've actually sat in a theater and been wowed from beginning to end. I would say the only movies to do that for me in the past couple of years have been...The Sixth Sense, Chicago, The Wedding Crashers and Juno. These are movies where I sat in the theater and just didn't want them to end. I could name a bunch of other favorites on my list but its too long to get in to. Don't get me wrong, I can sit and watch a movie without complaining about every single detail. I know how to relax and enjoy movies for what they are, even if (in my mind) they aren't perfect. Even though I'm a movie snob, I still the love the whole experience and I guess that's why I keep going. OR maybe its just another excuse to eat popcorn and chocolate : )
